Born in Greenwich, London Roy won a scholarship to the John Roan School, Blackheath, where he had an excellent art master Mr Dalziel, who lectured at a London College and on the radio. He was very encouraging and Roy achieved distinctions under his teaching. Roy then went on to do three years at the Regent Street (London) Art School, doing life drawing, still life, watercolour and oil. Further training in illustration followed and this is where Roy finely settled on, Architectural Drawing. (Perspective in watercolour). And spent the rest of his time in London at this finishing with his own studio in Hatton Garden. He has always worked in wood at home, finally settling on wood sculpture for retirement, he has had three shows in his local village Galleries and recently has been learning stonecutting being taught by a local stonemason. His sculpture influences are Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore.
